I don’t share this message lightly, in fact, it’s hard to share…
There is idolatry in the church, and it’s causing real harm. It’s pushing people away from Jesus, distorting who He really is, and replacing Him with a false image. It’s time to confront it.
If you’re reading this, I ask that you let your defenses down and listen to this video:
Below is a summary of the message in the video:
Two Idols
Idolatry isn’t about worshiping statues: it’s anything we put above Jesus.
There are two main idols that God has shown me are at work in the church today:
1. The Idol of Self-Righteousness
This is the lie that we can earn God’s love through our morality, works, or religious traditions. It creates:
- A fear-based faith instead of a grace-filled relationship.
- A culture of judgment where people feel they must be “good enough” to belong.
- A false image of God as a harsh taskmaster rather than a loving Father.
But the truth is: None of us are good enough on our own. It’s only by God’s grace that we are saved, healed, and transformed.
2. The Idol of Leadership & Power
Yes, God calls people into leadership. But leaders are not meant to be worshiped.
The church has created an unhealthy celebrity culture around pastors, prophets, and teachers. This has led to:
- Spiritual abuse where leaders are untouchable and unaccountable.
- People relying on leaders instead of knowing Jesus for themselves.
- Burnt-out pastors who feel pressured to maintain a perfect image.
This is not how Jesus designed His church. He calls all of us to know Him personally, to serve humbly, and to use our gifts—not just a select few.
Call to the Canadian Church
Jesus is calling us to lay down our divisions, our pride, and our excuses. It’s time to love people the way He does.
That means:
- Stopping pointless arguments and actually helping people.
- Breaking denominational barriers and working together.
- Loving people as they are, not as we wish they were.
We can’t claim to follow Jesus and ignore the suffering around us.
If You’ve Been Hurt by the Church…
If you have been:
- Rejected because you didn’t fit in.
- Shamed for struggling with sin.
- Used or abused by religious leaders.
I want to say: I’m sorry. Jesus sees you. And He is nothing like those who hurt you.
There is a supernatural move of healing coming.
God is restoring the broken, reviving the wounded, and calling people back to Him.
You don’t have to go through a pastor to find Him. He’s right there waiting for you.
Call on Him to save you because of what He did for you on the cross.
