I Am Clay

Spirituality

Lately, I’ve been in a deep place of surrender to God and have been wrecked by simple truths like:
I am His creation.
He is my Creator.
I was made for Him.

Revelation 4:11 says, “By Your will they existed and were created.”
That includes me.
That includes you.
We exist because He wanted us to.

It’s not about my plans.
It’s not about my timeline.
It’s not even about my understanding.

He is the Potter. I am the clay.

And that truth has undone me.
Because I’ve experienced God’s power firsthand.
I know that somehow, despite my freewill, He is going to do what He wants with me.

God has commanded me to do certain things I don’t like to be honest.
These commands don’t make sense to my logic and demand deep trust.

And I’ve wrestled.
I’ve asked the questions.

I’ve cried over and over:
“God, why this way?”
“Why this pace?”
“Why?”

But somewhere in the middle of the ache, I felt His presence and realized on a deep level:
God is the Potter and I’m in His hands.

These same hands that formed galaxies, formed me.
And those same hands are forming me for God’s purpose for my life.

Jesus has been kind to me and allowed me to complain.

But now I’m at a place of realizing He is God and I am not.

Truly, who am I to tell the Potter how to shape the clay?
Who am I to resist the One who knows my end from the beginning?
Who am I to tell God what He can and can’t do with me?

I used to preach surrender.
I used to teach on God’s sovereignty.
But now I’m living it.

And it’s not just a doctrine anymore.
It’s a revelation.

Anyways, I’ve come to this strange, sacred place:
Content in His will.
Even when I don’t like it.
Even when I don’t understand it.

Why?
Because I’ve had too many encounters.
I’ve seen too much of His power, His fire, His glory.
I can’t un-know Him now.
I can’t go back to dead religion or try to control the story.

He is God. I am not.
And that is incredibly good news.

“It is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose.” (Philippians 2:13)

Even my obedience is His grace.
Even my desire to do His will is a gift from Him.

And yet somehow, He lets me choose.
I don’t know where I land on every theological debate.
I just know this:
God is sovereign (in control).
And I am loved.
And somehow, those two truths dance together beautifully.

He’s not a tyrant.
He’s not controlling or abusive.
He’s kind.
But He’s also King.

And He’s looking for people who will trust Him even when it hurts.
Even when it doesn’t feel fair.
Even when it breaks your pride.

So here I am, clay in His hands.

Maybe you’ve been fighting Him

Maybe life hasn’t made sense.
Maybe you’re angry, disillusioned, or tired of trying to “figure it out.”
But what if the breakthrough isn’t in understanding…
What if it’s in surrender?

Not a surrender that says “I give up,”
but a surrender that says,
“You are worthy, Jesus. I trust Your hands.”

You don’t have to fix yourself.
You don’t have to get it all right.
You just need to come to Him.

Let Him show you His heart.
Let Him mold you with mercy.
Let Him love you back to life.

He’s not after your performance. He’s after your heart.

And He’s already given you His.
Nailed to a cross.
Risen from the grave.
Coming again.

Will you trust the Potter to form you how He wants?
